Roxanne Shante Biopic Will Be Released On Netflix March 23rd

Roxanne Shante was one of the first female emcees to gain notoriety on the mic. What made Shante different was she came to BATTLE. At such a young age Roxanne Shante hit the rap scene and was making a name for herself at a time where not many female emcees were picking up the mic.

The biopic was filmed back in 2016, and premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival , stars Shanté Adams as the New York City native and features roles from Nia Long and Mahershala Ali.

Netflix post this about the film “Life is a battle. In the early 1980s, the most feared battle MC in Queens, New York, was a fierce teenage girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. At the age of 14, Lolita “Roxanne Shante” Gooden was well on her way to becoming a Hip-Hop legend as she hustled to provide for her family while defending herself from the dangers of the streets. Get ready for ROXANNE ROXANNE, a new Netflix Original Film from the producers of “Fruitvale Station” and “Dope”, written/directed by Michael Larnell and starring Mahershala Ali, Nia Long and introducing Chanté Adams. Streaming only on Netflix March 23rd.”
