ARTIST OF THE DAY

Artist Of The Day: Z.I.G. Louisiana Born & Texas Raised

ZiG aka Z.I.G. was born in Jennings, La. in 1982. His father left when he was 2 years of age, so his mother took him and relocated to Orange aka “Fruit City”, Texas where the rest of her family lived. He grew up in the low-rent housing projects in West Orange, raised by a close-knit immediate family. Very intelligent with a wild side he got into many things as a youngster. He had many friends and was very popular and loved to hang out on the block with his “brothers” the Armstrongs from N.Y. and all their bros… The boys would play ball, wild out, have fun and at the end of the day freestyle non-stop.

Z.I.G was very heavily influenced by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, DJ Screw & The S.U.C. (namely Lil’ Keke), UGK, Bone Thugs N Harmony and more recently Canibus, Eminem, Paul Wall & SwishaHouse, Jadakiss from the Lox and many other various true artists. Both during his free time and at school, he would freestyle with peers and made a few tapes which got a small buzz around the area. He later made his first serious tape entitled “Fruit City’z Greatezt M.C.” which he recorded in his grandmother’s back-room on a desk-top computer with a regular mic. The rest is history.
