The hip-hop community is still mourning the loss of legendary music producer Irv Gotti.
It is not a reach to say that Gotti is a hip-hop legend. He founded the iconic hip-hop label Murder Inc. which introduced several popular artists who are still making music today.
One of those artists is hip-hop legend Ashanti who is responsible for hit songs such as Foolish, Baby, and Rock With You. Following Gotti’s passing Ashanti expressed her sorrow for how “things ended,” but also spoke about how “grateful,” she was for the good times that she and Irv had on her come-up.
“I can’t believe things ended like this….and it makes me so sad…We weren’t on the best terms the past few years but as I’ve always said, through our ups and downs I will forever be grateful for everything that you’ve done for me,” the artist said via her Instagram account.
“We made history and that will remain infinite.. I’ve always respected your musical genius and ability to push me to be my best.. All the greatness and positive things that came, far outweigh the dark and negative times.
I have always prayed for you to find peace. Sending love and prayers to the entire family. Rest well. Rest in Peace Irv”
Not everyone was as sympathetic towards Gotti’s family, namely his long-time rival, 50 Cent. Gotti’s Murda Inc. and 50 Cent’s G-Unit had a heated rivalry in the early 2000s and some of the incidents led to bloodshed.
Following Gotti’s passing 50 Cent took one final shot at his long-time rival.
“Smoking on that Gotti pack, nah God bless him LOL,” the rap star said on February 8.
