Cash Money Sues Lil Wayne’s Manager’s Company For Drake Royalties That Are Missing

According a report from The Blast, Baby and Cash Money hit Aspire Music Group Lil Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant’s company—with a countersuit claiming the organization shorted Drake’s royalty profits.

Aspire had originally sued Cash Money and Universal Music in 2017, claiming the labels withheld royalties owed from Drake’s career. On August 17th, 2018, Cash Money counter-sued Aspire, accusing Bryant and Lil Wayne of conspiring with attorney Ronald Sweeney to gain a larger share of Drake’s royalties.

According to court documents, Cash Money Records claims Aspire Music Group is nothing but a “shell company,” saying, “There was no business purpose to forming Aspire, other than to siphon profits out of the joint venture and to divert those profits to Sweeney, Bryant, and Carter/ Young Money. Aspire never conducted any business other than getting Drake signed to a record label. Aspire has never signed, nor sought to sign, a single additional artist.”

Birdman and Cash Money are now demanding that Aspire’s lawsuit be dismissed. While Wayne and Bryant have been accused of conspiring with Sweeney, Wayne is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
