Dame Dash is facing a lawsuit for an upcoming film that he is reportedly no longer a part of.
According to a report from TMZ on Tuesday (Jan. 22), director Josh Webber and Muddy Water Pictures have filed suit against Dash for sending out press materials for a film he’s been calling The List, which they say not only is he not a part of, but it’s not even the correct name. The movie has been renamed Dear Frank in the time since they parted ways with Dash.
The report states that Webber and the production company brought Dash on board to direct the project in 2016. They also used his home in Sherman Oaks, Calif. to film—but they say issues arose when Dame Dash continued to show up high to the set. They officially dropped Dash from the project two years later in 2018 and they claim there was never any official contract, so they feel they were well within their rights to do so.
Because Dash has still been promoting the film as if he is a part of it, Webber and Muddy Water Pictures are suing him for defamation, copyright infringement and for a judge to declare they are the sole owners of Dear Frank. They are seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
For his part, Dash sources tell TMZ that the only reason Webber and the production company have gone ahead with their lawsuit is because they knew that Dash was also gearing up to file a suit against them—as he claims that they shot the movie at his house with his equipment, and that they then stole the footage to move forward without him. He reportedly will be presenting evidence to back up his claims in the near future.
