Things are continuing to go on a downward spiral for Sean “Diddy” Combs. Last year he was made the subject of a federal sex trafficking investigation. Now being held without bail at the Brooklyn Detention Center, awaiting his trial which was supposed to begin May 5.
Diddy’s Lawyer Motions to Remove Himself From Case
However, things just went from bad to worse for the Bad Boy founder. Anthony Ricco, one of the many attorneys who has represented the super producer throughout the legal process, just filed a motion to recuse himself from the case.
“Although I have provided Sean Combs with the high level of legal representation expected by the court, under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs, consistent with the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice,” Ricco wrote in the court affidavit.
He also noted that his recusal, “will not result in a delay of the present schedule. For the commencement of jury selection and trial, or the present schedules for briefing of pre-trial legal issues.”
Despite suffering an immeasurable number of losses over the past year and a half, Combs did score a small victory earlier this month. Last year, one Jane Doe came forward, claiming Diddy and Jay-Z assaulted her. At a party when she was just 13 years old. That case has now been dropped.
Following the dismissal of the case, Combs’ attorneys said that the result of the case involving Diddy and the Jane Doe was a sign of what is to come regarding the other pending charges against him.
“Sean Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor,” his legal team said.
“No number of lawsuits, sensationalized allegations, or media theatrics will change that reality. We will continue to fight these baseless claims and hold those responsible for [these] false claims. This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law.”
