Drake’s road to redemption in 2025 is already off to a riveting start. And his hot streak could get even hotter. And coincidentally it could be because of his most noted nemesis, Kendrick Lamar.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino says that Drake could be selected as the performer at the 2026 World Cup, in hopes of creating a “rivalry,” with the NFL. The World Cup is an international event that happens once every four years, just like the Olympics. So it is a significantly bigger event.
“That’s a good idea,” he said during a recent interview. “Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities. I should have his number saved somewhere.”
Kendrick’s 2024 hit Not Like Us, which takes aim at Drake, was a hot commodity last year. It ruled the charts last year, taking home a mind-boggling five Grammys earlier this year. The hype surrounding the track reached such a national scale that Lamar was chosen as the halftime show of this year’s Super Bowl.
In 2026, the World Cup will have a halftime show for the first time ever. Set to take place in New Jersey at Metlife Stadium. Previously the FIFA president hinted at it being a “historic” event.
“This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world,” Infantino said.
Drizzy’s hometown of Toronto, Canada will play host to the World Cup for the first time in June of 2026. The Six God explained that Canada’s cultural versatility makes it the perfect host city for the international event.
“Canada as a whole, we have an incredible melting pot. But in Toronto, there are just so many different cultural experiences,” the 6 God explained. “So when the world comes, it’s going to be beautiful.
