Remy Ma Breaks Nicki Minaj’s Best Female Hip-Hop Artist BET Streak & Nicki Is A No Show

I personally don’t believe that they playing field for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards is all that challenging (that’s putting it nicely) but Nicki Minaj has won that award seven years in a row. Yes you heard me correctly SEVEN. That was 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016. First of all how does this happen? Many of the years that Nicki won she didn’t even have an album out. But you know what? All seven of those years she won the award she actually showed up to the award show. By chance Nicki Minaj (who was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist yet again) did not show up to the 2017 BET Awards and did not win the award. Instead the award was given to an artist that Nicki Minaj had a very publicized rap battle with in Remy Ma.

One would beg the question(s); did she not win the award because she didn’t show up or did she not show up because she knew she wasn’t winning the award? That we have no answer on, either way it makes Nicki look a bit classless to not show up to an award show that gave you the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award for seven years in a row.

Adding fuel to the fire Remy Ma goes to the podium and accepts the award for Best Female Hip-Hop artist and the first thing she says on the mic “Are you DUMB!?!?!”. For those of you that may not follow the culture that closely those are the opening lines from Remy’s diss record about Nicki Minaj “shETHER”. It didn’t stop there, after Remy thanked everyone she needed to than she spit some BARS aiming Nicki’s way. The BARS were “Y’all bitches got fat while we starved / Shots in your ass, pads in your bras / Y’all some liars, it ain’t no facts in your songs / And yeah that crown is coming back to the Bronx.”

The streak is over and I guess it’s only fitting that it was broken by the emcee that seemingly won the battle. That is Hip-Hop, it will be interesting to see if a new streak in that category will be in our future.
