Putting together a concert is a major expense for artists. So when a show gets canceled, it is usually because something major has happened. Rap star Tyler the Creator recently was forced to cancel his performance because of a tragic incident.
The “Yonkers” artist was scheduled to perform at the AXE Ceremonia in Mexico City. For the Meme De Real Saturday Night Show on Saturday, March 7. However, that performance was nixed after two concertgoers were struck by an object that was being carried by a crane.
Unfortunately, the incident became fatal after the two attendees succumbed to their injuries and died. The two victims who died were identified as photographers Miguel Angel Rojas and Berenice Giles.
In a statement following the incident the Mexican government noted that Giles and Rojas received medical care. But they ultimately could not stop them from succumbing to the injuries that were sustained.
“The aforementioned structure fell on two people who received pre-hospital care at the scene and were later urgently transported to the hospital, where they unfortunately passed away,” the statement said.
Following the tragedy, the AXE Ceremonia also released a statement, noting that they are “heartbroken,” about the events that occurred.
“With deep sadness, we confirm the passing of the two people who were injured during today’s incident,” they said.
“We are so deeply heartbroken by this loss. We are reaching out to their families to support them during this incredibly difficult time and to provide them with all our care and solidarity.”
After the incident the festival that Tyler the Creator was scheduled to perform at canceled all of their festivities that were scheduled for Sunday Night. Noting the importance of “following the guidelines of the relevant authorities.”
Tyler The Creator has yet to release a statement about the tragic incident.
