Voletta Wallace Dead at 78
“The Notorious B.I.G.’s mom, Voletta Wallace, is dead … TMZ has learned,” the outlet wrote on Friday.
“Biggie Smalls’ mother died Friday morning in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania … according to Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac. We’re told she was in hospice care and the cause of death here is natural causes.”
Wallace’s son Biggie was tragically murdered in 1997 and was a casualty in the violent East Coast vs. West Coast beef. But even after Biggie’s murder, his mother did the groundwork to make sure that his legacy lived on.
“Biggie’s estate was estimated to be worth about $10 million when he died, and it’s since ballooned to a now-estimated $160 million,” the outlet added.
Biggie broke out with his debut album Ready to Die, which is on a short list of rap albums to be RIAA certified diamond. The album was released on the Bad Boy label which was spearheaded by Diddy.
Diddy found himself in hot water last year after a video was released of him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie, in a Los Angeles hotel in 2016. Following the release of the video, Voletta had a lot to say about the Bad Boy Founder.
“I hope that I see Sean one day and the only thing I want to do is slap the daylights out of him. And you can quote me on that because I liked him. I didn’t want to believe all the awful things, but I’m so ashamed and embarrassed,” she said in 2024.
“I’m praying for Cassie. I’m praying for his mother. I don’t want to believe the things that I’ve heard, but I’ve seen [the hotel video]. Pray that he apologizes to her.”He needs to apologize to his mother. I hope to God he sits her down and spills his guts and apologizes to her.”
