We Get An Inside Look At 2 Chainz’ Pretty Girl Fit Fest: Pretty Girls Like Trap Music Edition

Last week, leading up to the release of his third studio album, “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music,” 2Chainz presented one of the most creative rollouts in years. One of the most interesting parts of the rollout was the Pretty Girl Fit Fest: Pretty Girls Like Trap Music Edition. Thursday, June 15th, over 200 of Atlanta’s prettiest girls showed up to the Loft at Center to sweat it out to 2chainz new album with a few of Atlanta hottest fitness trainers. We sent creative writer Shautionne Mosely to cover the event. The non-traditionalist Shautionne is, she came back with a creative story inspired by her experience. Big shoutout to The Rebelle Agency and 2Chainz for this innovative marketing strategy. Check out Shautionne’s story below.

Tyler

Unrolling the tapped black shirt that was given to me, I fluffed it out and held it in front of me to get a better look in this dimly lit bathroom. I asked for a medium and they gave me a large, but whatever I’m only here for three hours. I put it on and tucked it into my dark pants, smoothing down the bold, white, letters that read “Security.” My cousin hooked me up with this job and I couldn’t be more grateful. Not only do I get to make extra cash, but not everyone gets to say that their first security event was sponsored by 2chainz. “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music” drops tomorrow and as a sort of celebration, Street Execs, DNA Marketing, and 2Chainz have put together a  Pretty Girls Fit Fest. A festival full of high energy trainers, trap music, and sweating sports bras. All of which makes for fantastic promotion and one happy security guard. I brushed my  hair then walked out the bathroom and into an area that could easily be mistaken for a nightclub. The DJ warmed us up with the help of  Future’s “Mask Off” which was fitting with the bright pink and codeine purple lights dancing around the room and stage. There were two bars serving drinks in the back, and two lounges. One of which held  PepsiCo’s Propel Electrolyte Water and regular water for our attendees that didn’t feel like getting lit after their workout.

“Tyler!” Marcus, the security manager, called me. “Get where you’re supposed to be we got people trying to come in.”  I nodded, then headed outside. 2Chainz’s “Good Drank” began to play and I could hear Mike Dean’s piano keys muffled in the stone stairwell. Just like we’ve all been anticipating this album, my shoulders and finger snaps waited for the beat to drop and for Titty Boi to begin the story that I’m oh so familiar with. Pretty girls do like trap music, but I’d argue that I love it even more. Trap music provides a platform for the tales of the streets (and those who run them) to be heard. Through trap music, young Bankhead bulls like me get to have our biographies spat by the famous.  That base that makes heads nod and speakers vibrate is loud to ensure that you hear our stories  loud and clear. Trap music has made its way to mainstream and it’s cool  that this genre of music is getting the recognition it deserves, but these teeny boppers and Sperry wearing frat boys don’t know like me and Chainz know. What’s the soundtrack to your Saturday night was the soundtrack to my life. As soon as I stepped out the door and into the day I was almost bum rushed by a petite woman trying to get inside. Confusion was written all over her face when I stepped between her and the door.

“This the fit fest?” She asked.

“Yeah, but we’re not letting people in just yet.” I replied.

“I thought the doors were supposed to open at 6.”

“I was told not to let anyone in.” I said more sternly. The look of confusion turned to frustration and in one quick move she tried to make her way around me once more, but I was faster.

“Ma’am pull that again and I’m going to have to ask you to leave!”

Man fuck this strong jawed big shirt little body having ass nigga,  I can read. I must’ve read this email 1,000 times this week and I’m sure it’s supposed to open at 6pm. It’s hot outside the Center Stage here in Buckhead and I’m sure that has something to do with my attitude. Mix that in with excitement and yeah, I’m a bit of a mess. More minutes passed and a whole crowd  full of girls started to arrive for the first class. Finally, another large security guard came out and told the one I had ran into to start letting us in.

“You hear that?” He said smugly to me. “NOW you can go in.” I rolled my eyes at the black Crimson Chin and headed upstairs where I was bombarded with purple and pink lights. A bar, a DJ, a lounge? I forgot I was here to work out until one of the Street Execs staff members handed me a pretty girl pink yoga mat with the album title written at the top.

“Get on the floor ladies and start stretching! We do not want anybody pulling any muscles on camera.” Said the DJ.

We all  rushed to the floor and placed our new mats on the ground. Missy Mostrom who created VESTA Movement was up first with her partner Stephanie, aka Beau Bodies.  Their combinations of kickboxing and ab work solidified the fact that this was more than a party…they came to kick our ass. I was tired, the sweat pouring down my face ruined my perfectly twisted afro, and my legs were screaming “nooo baby what is you doing?” Twisted, almost eerie bells, began to creep out the booming speakers. Followed by claps and a  stuttering high hat. I was down in a low plank thinking “is this “4am?”, and right on cue 2chainz boastfully answered “damn right bro!” Suddenly I wasn’t so tired anymore. I wanted to push myself  and keep in mind that the sweat is just evidence of my body working. Not to mention there was a camera crew getting close ups of  us and I couldn’t get  caught tapping out. I love trap music because it’s invigorating, because it’s inspiring. I grew up far from the streets, but that doesn’t mean I’ve never been down and out. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t days that I feel like God’s not listening to me. That’s when I plug my headphones in and assault my eardrums with stories of triumph and persistence. Who doesn’t love when the underdogs beat the odds and win? If 2Chainz can watch friends die left and right, and surpass the same destiny that was thought to come to him, then I can accomplish what’s important to me as well no matter what it is. At this moment, it’s getting in one more squat. 45 minutes came and went and those of us who could stand gave a standing ovation to our trainers.  There were smiles all around, girls taking pictures with new found friends, and thank you’s to the staff who put together such a great event. I grabbed my things and a blackberry Pepsi water, and went out the door as another wave of women came in for the next session with DaShaun “Guru of Abs” Johnson, and even more for Ellen and Lana Ector, the co-owners of Gymnetics Fitness. The evening air hit every part of sweat my towel didn’t reach and I basked in it.

“How’d it go?” The security guard from earlier asked.

Tyler

“Not bad.” She responded, wiping more sweat from her neck.

“I don’t know why you’re sweating so hard. It’s not like you were really working out. I peeked my head in for a second and you were  popping when you were supposed to be lunging and jigging when you were supposed to be toe tapping.” I said.

She busted out laughing, showing a face that looks so much better than her frustrated one from earlier. When she put her sweaty hair in a loose bun I could see the fatigue, but brightness in her brown eyes.

“You saw that?” She said.

“We all did. They probably got you on camera.”

She shrugged. “That’s what this is all about right? Movement and fun? Using our bodies to showcase how the music makes us feel. It’s a celebration of the album of the summer! This album is for the girls who can’t seem to bend over and pick something up without popping they ass one time and I’m here for it. Now I’d love to stay and chat with you…”

“Tyler.”

“Tyler, but I have an uber to catch and an album to pre order.”

She turned away before I could even ask for her name, and I watched her walk away with a saunter in her figure hugging yoga pants. Pretty girls like trap music indeed.
