4 Controversial Hip-Hop Lyrics That Sparked Outrage

Lil Wayne - Shuttershock Images

Videos by According2HipHop

We love hip-hop because it gives our favorite artists a chance to express themselves creatively. But sometimes, those same artist can go too far with their creative expression. Let’s take a look at four lyrics from rappers that sparked outrage.

Lil Wayne – Karate Chop (Remix)

Artist: Lil Wayne

Song: Karate Chop (Remix)

Lyric: “Pop a lot of pain pills, Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels

Yeah, beat that p***y up like Emmett Till.”

We couldn’t do a list about controversial lyrics that left people outraged, and not kick it off with Lil Wayne. Although he is considered one of the greatest artists of all time, he has tended to push the envelope with his lyrics. Weezy left people stunned with his verse on Future’s Karate Chop remix. He compares his sexual escapades to the lynching of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old boy who was murdered and had his body thrown in a river in 1955 after whistling at a white woman. The lyric caused so much national outrage that even Till’s living family members spoke out against the rap star. The original version of the track was pulled by the label and replaced with a censored version.

Lil Yachty – PlaqueBoyMax Freestyle

Artist: Lil Yachty

Song: PlaqueBoyMax Freestyle

Lyric: “Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd.”

Lil Yachty is another person on this list who has never been one to hold his tongue. But unfortunately for him, his brash verbiage has landed him in the past. In 2025, Yachty and his group, the Concrete Boys, appeared on PlaqueBoyMax’s freestyle. And during the freestyle, Yachty compared the murder of George Floyd to him performing a presumed sexual act. Floyd was killed by Minnesota Officer Derek Chauvin in May 2020 after the officer knelt on his neck for over nine minutes. Former NBA player Stephen Jackson, who was a close friend of George Floyd, called him out for his actions. However, Yachty later apologized.

N.W.A. – F**k Da Police

Artist: N.W.A

Song: F**K Da Police

Lyric: “F**k Da Police”

N.W.A., or N****z With Attitude, were one of the originators of gangster rap. But even deeper than that is that they used their lyrics to tell stories about their reality. And being born and raised in Compton, California, in the 80s and 90s, around the same time of the L.A. riots, they had their fair share of run-ins with the police. They expressed their disdain with the police in their song “F**k Da Police,” and although their fans were receptive to the song, the police were not as thrilled. The FBI even went as far as to send a warning letter to the group’s label, Priority Records, about inciting violence.

Rick Ross – U.O.E.N.O.

Artist: Rick Ross

Song: U.O.E.N.O

Lyric: “Put Molly all in her champagne. She ain’t even know it. I took her home and enjoyed that. She ain’t even know it.”

Rick Ross found himself on the hot seat for his verse on Rocko’s U.O.E.N.O. At a time when date rape and sexual assault were at an all-time high, fans didn’t take it too kindly when Ross seemed to insinuate that he drugged a girl and had sex with her without even knowing it. It cost Ross in a major way, too. Amid the backlash, he lost his sponsorship with Sneaker giant Reebok. His verse was also scrubbed from the song.
