50 Cent has once again waded into New York politics—this time taking aim at NYC mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani over his stance on defunding the police.
The Queens rapper-turned-mogul took to Instagram to voice his disapproval after Mamdani, a progressive Democrat and State Assemblyman, reiterated his support for cutting NYPD funding during a recent Breakfast Club interview.
“New York turns into Gotham City if you defund the police,” 50 wrote in a post alongside a photo of Mamdani. “Trust me on this one, that’s not a good idea buddy.”
Not done there, Fif followed up with an AI-generated image of a dystopian New York, joking: “Escape from New York coming if you’re not careful.”
Mamdani also name-dropped 50 Cent in the Breakfast Club conversation, predicting that the rapper “would not be happy” with another one of his policies—raising taxes on the city’s wealthiest residents.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because 50’s history with tax talk goes back to 2020, when he made headlines for temporarily endorsing Donald Trump after seeing Biden’s proposed tax hikes. He later walked it back, writing, “F— Donald Trump. I never liked him.”
Even so, he’s remained an outspoken critic of New York’s current leadership, recently calling out Mayor Eric Adams over the city’s handling of immigration.
Love him or hate him, 50 Cent is gonna speak his mind—especially when it comes to his home turf.
