50 Cent Responds to J. Cole’s Recent Comments
DJ Sha Money XL tried to convince Fif to sign Cole to his G-Unit label. But according to Cole, the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ creator passed on signing the Fayetteville native because of his image. He recalled 50 Cent saying he couldn’t sign him because his “jeans were too tight.”
50 confirmed that the story was true. He says he is still a Cole fan, but his image at the time just didn’t align with the G-Unit brand.
“I’m a J Cole fan man, the boy just had on denim spandex, WTF how was I supposed to know that was gonna work,” 50 wrote in a social media post on Thursday.

Fans in the comments section also reacted to Cole’s story.
Turned down for tight jeans… Now he’s one of the greatest to ever do it. Life really humbles scouting decisions,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“A G Unit J. Cole would have changed the entire timeline of the 2010s. Imagine Cole on those 50 beats!” a second user added.
“Sometimes we let diamonds in Rough slip off one’s hand. Sh** happens,” a third user chimed in.
Cole would go on to sign to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label in 2009. He was the first artist to officially sign with the rap legend. Cole has since separated from Roc Nation and has his own music label, Dreamville.
