The Met Gala invaded New York City on Monday, May 5. The famed event happens every first Monday in May, as the industry’s top celebrities gather in Gotham. It is part of an effort to support the fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
Met Gala Bans Playboi Carti
Among the attendees were Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Damson Idris, and others. But fans noticed that there was one key omission from the attendees list. That being rap star Playboi Carti.
There was a lot of speculation from fans. That is when Carti revealed he is banned from the star-studded event.
“MET GALA BANNED ME. FELT LIKE WE GOT KICKED OUT OF PROM. BUT WE GOOD [GIO] WITH ME IM A HAPPY MAN F*CK EM”,” Carti wrote in a recent Instagram post.
Fans went on to ask why he was banned from the Met Gala, but Carti did not go into detail.
Carti has been at the center of controversy a lot this year. Most notably related to his ongoing feud with his one-time cohort Ye, formerly known as rap star Kanye West. West went off on the rap star during an explosive interview with popular hip-hop blogger DJ Akademiks in March. The Yeezy creator expressed his issues with Playboi Carti. Specifically, how they are rooted in him not being involved with his latest music.
“He sent me the song [‘We Need All Da Vibes’] with Thug and Ty, we were in the studio. We were talking about doing a mixtape. So then I called him like, ‘Bro, where’s our song?!’ It feels like on Carti’s album, he’s doing everybody a favor,” West said to Akademiks.
“So he didn’t need to have all the f*****g features … The album could be better. That number of songs is really ambitious. How do you do that without having me as your producer?”
