A source from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation identified Santino Casio as the assailant in the Lanez attack earlier this week. The 42-year-old inmate has been in the facility since 2004, after he was sentenced to life for convictions of second-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.
Prison records show that Casio has built a reputation for violence behind bars. In January 2008, he was sentenced to six years for assaulting a fellow prisoner with a deadly weapon. In 2018, he was sentenced to another two years for possessing a deadly weapon.
He has been put in restricted housing pending an investigation by the prison and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
Tory Lanez was attacked in the yard of California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi on Monday (May 12). In a statement on social media, his team revealed that the R&B star was stabbed 14 times in the assault – including twice in the back of his head. As a result, both of the “Proud Family” creators’ lungs collapsed.
“Tory was stabbed 14 times. Including 7 wounds to his back. 4 to his torso. 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face,” Lanez’ team said in the statement. “Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus.”
Thankfully, Tory Lanez appears to be recovering well. As his team noted, he is still in pain but is “Thankful to God” for “pulling through.
