Kendrick Lamar and SZA are back in the headlines again as they continue to tear up the music charts. But their success as a hip-hop duo has been both a blessing and a curse. Because of as much praise that has been heaped upon them, they have received just as much criticism. Their latest critic is famed Bronx emcee, Fat Joe.

Fat Joe Sounds Off on Kendrick and SZA

Earlier this month, Fat Joe launched a podcast with fellow New York City artist Jadakiss titled Joe & Jada. On a recent episode of the podcast, the legendary hip-hop duo discussed Kendrick and SZA. Specifically about their current ranking as a duo.

“Are Kendrick and SZA positioned to take that number one spot on the duo tip?” Jadakiss asked Joe per Complex

Joe went on to confirm that he had them ranked number one. However, he also expressed concerns about the amicability of their relationship going forward, stating that it has the potential to get “rocky” over time.

“What you have to understand is we don’t know if they’re going to still be best friends and all that forever, you know what I’m saying? Right now, they have about six, or seven songs–they are number one. Yes, they could take the slot.”

Joe went on to elaborate that he believes that Ja Rule and Ashanti have the top spot of all time as a duo with 15 number-one records. But the former rap star also believes that Kendrick and SZA could ultimately dethrone them.

“I’m telling you that SZA is a solo artist, Kendrick…They’re probably like, ‘Alright, they have fifteen number ones. We already have eight. Let’s bust this down to two years, and we have eighteen.'”

Many people had a hard time grasping the point that Fat Joe was trying to convey. Including TDE Punch, who seemed a bit confused by the sentiment saying “What???” in the comments section of the podcast clip.
