Pusha T Says Kendrick Lamar is The Reason Clipse Left Def Jame

In addition, the legendary duo announced their new album. The project is titled, “Let God Sort ‘Em Out” and will be released this summer. Last year they revealed their plans to drop a project for the first time in fifteen years under the Def Jam Label.

However, when the official announcement came in May, the distribution was credited to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. It had many wondering if there had been a falling out between the two sides. In an interview with GQ, Pusha T revealed the reason behind that was a dispute over a Kendrick Lamar verse.

“They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing,” he said. “And then they wanted me to take the record off. And so, after a month of not doing it, Steve Gawley, the lawyer over there was like, ‘We’ll just drop the Clipse.’ But that can’t work because I’m still there [solo]. But [if] you let us all go… ”

Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s feud ruled the headlines last summer. But before Drizzy feuded with K.Dot it was his rap beef with Pusha T that shook up the industry. On his 2018 track, Story of Adidon, the rap artist revealed that Drake had a secret son.

With Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar being two of Drake’s biggest nemesis, Def Jam did not like the idea of the two of them being on the song together. Especially because of Drake’s pending lawsuit against UMG due to Kendrick’s remarks on his song Not Like Us.

“Let God Sort ‘Em Out,” arrives on July 11.
