R&B legend, R. Kelly made headlines earlier this month. The Chocolate Factory creator was given an overdose of medication after being moved to solitary confinement. Despite being administered a “life-threatening” overdose, prison officials elected to remove Kelly from the hospital. Against the recommendation of his doctor.
R. Kelly Seeking New Trial Following Overdose
The Ignition creator is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence. For his role in a sex trafficking ring that involved young children. Amid his mistreatment claims, Kelly is now seeking a new trial according to a new report from AllHipHop.
According to the report, the disgraced R&B star is “demanding” a new trial on the grounds that prosecutors and prison officials “stole his legal mail, threatened witnesses, and even plotted to have him killed in prison.”
Kelly is also making accusations of bribery. Noting that he believes a “key witness” was bribed to change her testimony in exchange for payment.
He also claims that a member of the Aryan Brotherhood was paid to execute him in prison but ultimately denied the request.
In addition, Kelly and his lawyer claim that he was refused “urgent medical care” and have cited that as the reason for urgency as it pertains to a potential new trial.
In addition, the singer and lawyer requested that he be released to home detention, citing that his life is in danger at FCI Butner, where he is currently serving his sentence. Unfortunately for R. Kelly, that motion was denied by Judge Martha Pacold.
“Kelly has not produced any argument or evidence—much less clear and convincing evidence—challenging [the court’s previous] finding or indicating that circumstances have changed such that Kelly is no longer a flight risk or a danger to the community,” Judge Pacold wrote in the June 24 order.
As for a potential new trial, the Judge has yet to rule on that motion.
