On July 2, the jury finally delivered a decision in the high-profile case involving Bad Boy Records founder Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Cassie’s Lawyer Speaks Out Following Diddy Verdict
Diddy was found not guilty. On the charges of racketeering and trafficking of his ex-girlfriend and label artist, Cassie Ventura, and the trafficking of Jane Doe. Who is believed to be his ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy. He was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution. Related to Cassie and was found guilty of the same charges for Jane Doe.
This wasn’t exactly the verdict that Cassie was hoping for when she took the stand against Combs in May. Following the verdict, her lawyer Douglas H. Wigdor spoke out. In a statement via ABC News, Wigdor noted that this wasn’t exactly the result he and Ventura were hoping for. However, he feels that she still “made a difference.”
“I hope that people still see what Cassie did. And think that she really made a difference,” he said to the outlet.
Wigdor also noted that even though the music mogul evaded the most serious charges of racketeering, his legal woes are far from over. He believes that Diddy will still have to make his victims whole again through the several civil suits that have been brought against him, similar to the O.J. Simpson verdict.
“I think the story’s not over because there are all these other civil claims out there,” he continued.
“I mean, we’ll recall the O.J. Simpson case. I mean, he was obviously found not guilty in his criminal trial, only then to be found liable in the civil case. And then for the rest of his life, he was trying to avoid judgments and leading a very untoward life of nobody accepting him anymore.”
In addition to the civil suits, Diddy could still face jail time based on the prostitution charges. He currently remains held without bail and will be sentenced on October 3.
