The verdict in the federal trial of Bad Boy Records Sean “Diddy” Combs has left several people stunned.
While Diddy scored major legal victories, he wasn’t able to evade all of the charges against him. Even more unfortunate is that his bail was denied. So he’ll have to remain in prison until his sentencing date. Which Judge Arub Subramanian has scheduled for October 3.
Diddy’s Lawyers Pushing For Earlier Sentencing Date
However, the music mogul’s lawyers are now pushing to have that date moved up.
According to a recent social media post from Nancy Dillon of Rolling Stone, Combs’ lawyers are requesting for his sentencing date to be moved up to September 22.
To bring things up to speed, Diddy was facing racketeering charges related to prostitution and trafficking that occurred during his now-infamous celebrity parties. Also known as “freak-offs.”
The music mogul was found not guilty of the racketeering and trafficking charges. Related to his ex-girlfriend and label artist Cassie as well as the Jane Doe who testified (believed to be his ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy). However, he was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution-related to both of the aforementioned women.
After scoring two major acquittals, which likely would have landed the music mogul in prison for the rest of his life, Diddy’s attorney Marc Agnifilo spoke out. He called the jury’s decision a “great victory” for the criminal justice system.
“You saw that the [SDNY] prosecutors came at him with all that they had,” Agnifilo also added. “They’re not stopping. But one thing stands between all of us and a prison, and that is a jury of 12 citizens.”
There has yet to be a response to Diddy’s lawyer’s request for a September 22 sentencing date on the prostitution charges. So as it stands he will still be sentenced on October 3. He faces up to ten years in prison.
