Atlanta Rap Star Young Thug was the main subject of the high-profile YSL RICO trial that commenced in 2024. Young Thug wasn’t found innocent. But the 15 years of probation he received were a slap on the wrist. Especially considering the 40 years he was facing.
Young Thug’s Lawyer Calls Him a Hero
One of the main reasons that Young Thug isn’t sitting in jail today is the genius of his defense attorney, Brian Steele. However, in a recent video clip shared to social media, Steele insists that it is Young Thug who is the real hero. Steele believes that it is because of Young Thug’s acquittal in 2024 that other people are also being acquitted for crimes they were egregiously accused of.
“Since your trial, Jeffery, there are more acquittals than there were before your trial,” Steele said in the clip. “It’s because it’s related back to the fact that you showed that the criminal justice system is corrupt and prosecutors, at times, hide evidence. You did that. You are a hero. Thank you for teaching everybody the truth.”

Shortly after his release, Thug did an interview with GQ. And in that interview, he noted that Steele was one of the people who helped him keep a level head during the trial. By reminding him of who he is.
“My lawyer, Brian Steel, he always told me every day, like, “Bro, you’ve got to know. You got to know.” And then I was just sitting in the cell every night alone, it was just kind of like, ‘I’m big,'” he said in the interview. “I was always popular. Was always the big bro, even in my neighborhoods and things, so I’ve never looked at it. I didn’t grasp how it is now because I always was like that.”
Thug’s new album, titled Uy Scuti, is set to drop later this year.
