Drake hasn’t suffered many losses in his career. But that all changed after his 2024 rap feud with Kendrick Lamar.

Drizzy and Kendrick exchanged several tracks during their rap feud last summer. But Kendrick landed a knockout punch with his track, Not Like Us. But in the aftermath of the song, Drake is suing Universal Music Group (UMG), claiming that several of the song’s lyrics are defamatory.

Drake Given Permission to Subpoena Witness in UMG Trial

As Drake prepares to corral potential witnesses in the court proceedings, the presiding judge, Jeanette A. Vargas, has permitted him to subpoena a key witness in the case, Kojo Menne Asamoah.

Drake claims that Kojo played a key role in inflating the song’s streaming numbers. And after being unable to serve him with a subpoena in person, the Judge has granted the rap star permission to use alternative methods.

“Plaintiff now requests that he be permitted to send the Subpoena both by certified mail and to affix the Subpoena to the doors at the five physical addresses believed to be associated with Mr. Asamoah, his family, and his business,” the motion reads. “Further, Plaintiff asks to send the Subpoena by email to three email addresses connected to Mr. Asamoah and his business ventures. Plaintiff’s counsel confirms that these email addresses remain operative.”

As the court proceedings progress, Drake has submitted a list of witnesses that he would like to be called during the process, according to Billboard. And the list is massive. Headlining the list of witnesses that Drake has submitted is former Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) President Dave Free.

“Drake has not accused Lamar himself of defamation, and the Los Angeles rapper is notably absent from Drake’s potential witness list. But he does name multiple high-profile people and businesses associated with Lamar, including former Top Dawg Entertainment president Dave Free and manager Anthony Saleh,” the outlet writes.

The TDE President is an important factor in Kendrick and Drake’s rap feud. In Drizzy’s track titled “Family Matters,” the Views artist alleges that Free had an affair with Kendrick’s fiancée, Whitney Alford. He also claims that Dave is the father of Whitney’s son and not Kendrick.
