Dame Dash is back in the headlines again. And in what has become a normal occurrence for the famed music executive, it is not for good reason. Dash did a recent interview with Art of Dialogue, and he made some comments about late R&B star Aaliyah that have made him the subject of heavy backlash.
Dame Dash Under Fire After Recent Aaliyah Comments
As part of his interview, Dash introduced an artist who was with him, named Nicolette. A member of his band, Black Guns. And when introducing Nicolette, he compared her to Aaliyah.
“She has her own solo albums as well, but she’s a big part of the Black Guns,” Dash said. “It’s funny because you know, to me, she’s like if Aaliyah were white. If Aaliyah were white, she’d be a lesbian. That’s her and she has the same everything,” he added while simultaneously opening Nicolette’s jacket to showcase he physique. To which she appeared to be extremely uncomfortable with.
He also added:
“She has a little bit of rhythm, too. But she can play instruments, and she writes and sings, and she also did a lot of the administrative stuff with the album. So she helped me with my dream, and she earned her way into the band by working with the band.”
As you might expect, fans on social media were unhappy with his comparisons to the late artist.
“Dame is a first-class hater f**k this fool,” one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Dame dash wild as f**k. Using white lesbian Aaliyah to describe someone,” another person said.
Aaliyah was tragically killed in 2001 after she and eight other passengers were on board a plane after they had finished shooting a music video in the Bahamas. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Marsh Harbour Airport. There were no survivors on the flight.
