Drake and Kendrick Lamar engaged in a heated rap feud in 2024. The two Grammy Award winners took center stage in one of the more memorable rap beefs in recent history. But there were several other casualties involved. One of those was rap star A$AP Rocky.
Drake appeared to call out Rocky during his verse on Family Matters when her raps:
“I ain’t even know you rapped still ’cause they only talkin’ ’bout your ‘fit again. Probably gotta have a kid again ‘fore you think of droppin’ any shit again.”
ASAP Rocky Reignites Beef With Drake Over UMG Lawsuit
During a recent interview with Elle Magazine, Rocky was asked about Kendrick’s feud with Drake. And the rap star said that he chose to fall back and not respond. Because the feud was between K.Dot and Drizzy. He also says that in the aftermath, he is disappointed in Drake. Because he decided to take the legal route, referencing his lawsuit against UMG.
“The battle was between Kendrick and Drake. Not Drake and everybody else who might have said something at that time. And that’s mainly why I fell back,” Rocky said. “I just hate the way it’s turning out with [Drake] suing and all that. What part of the game is that? What type of s**t is that? That’s none of my business, I guess.”
In the fallout of their highly publicized beef, Drake filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG). Over the distribution of Kendrick’s Song Not Like Us. He claims that several remarks made in the song have been damaging to his character and reputation. Most notably, the lyric where Kendrick refers to him as a “certified pedophile.”
In response to the lawsuit, UMG ripped Drake, claiming that his complaint is “utterly without merit.”
“Plaintiff, one of the most successful rap artists of all time, lost a rap battle. That he provoked and in which he willingly participated,” lawyers for the label wrote.
“So instead of accepting the loss like the unbothered rap artist he often claims to be, he has sued his own record label. In a misguided attempt to salve his wounds. Plaintiff’s complaint is utterly without merit and should be dismissed with prejudice.”
