50 Cent ’s vision for Shreveport, Louisiana is one step closer to reality. On Monday (Sept. 22), the Shreveport City Council unanimously approved his plan to transform the city’s downtown into a new entertainment district, giving his multimillion-dollar investment the greenlight to move forward.
The decision comes more than a year after Fif’s G-Unit Studios began scooping up property in the area, totaling nearly $2.4 million. Now, with approval secured, the rapper-turned-mogul is putting $50 million of his own money behind the project, which is projected to break ground in late 2025 or early 2026.
“This is one of the largest economic development deals in this city, in this region that we’re having,” District A Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor said during the meeting.
The development will create what’s being called the Film and Entertainment Gateway Economic Development District. A 2% sales tax will be levied within the zone, with revenue feeding into a trust fund dedicated to local redevelopment projects.
Earlier this year, 50 Cent also signed a 30-year lease for Shreveport’s Millennium Studios, with plans to turn the space into a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue. He celebrated the council’s latest approval on Instagram, writing: “Shreveport is gonna be the place to be, Art, music, film, Television and entertainment. Let’s go!”
Not everyone in the city is convinced, but local officials are betting on Fif’s track record. “I’m not fearful in doing this because 50 is willing to invest $50 million into Shreveport,” Councilman Grayson Boucher explained. “We don’t have very many multimillionaires knocking on the door to invest.”
For 50 Cent, the project is part of his larger push into film, television, and live entertainment — industries he’s been steadily dominating since his breakout in music. And if all goes as planned, Shreveport could become the next destination on that map.
