Blueface is finally addressing the long-running mystery behind his almost-collaboration with Drake.
In a new sit-down with VladTV, the L.A. rapper broke down why the link-up with the Toronto superstar never materialized, framing it as a matter of timing and circumstances rather than fault.
“Maybe who I was behind or working with, he wasn’t vibing with,” Blueface said, careful not to point fingers in either direction. “I wouldn’t necessarily say it was because of me or him. It was just because of circumstances. If I were to guess, I would say he was probably more interested in signing me. Once he seen that I signed and all this stuff…”
According to Blueface, the dynamic shifted even more once “Thotiana” started to heat up — and especially after Cardi B jumped on the remix. With YG and Cardi both appearing on revamped versions of the breakout hit in 2019, the record’s momentum took on a life of its own.
“She went crazy,” he said of Cardi’s verse. “That feature changed my life honestly.”
Blueface says the original “Thotiana” was already catching steam, but Cardi’s remix blew the doors off. Streams surged toward half a billion, introducing him to a massive new audience and unlocking the kind of visibility — and checks — that artists at his level rarely receive that early in their careers. The song’s success also opened the door for him to tour with Lil Baby and experience a new level of financial stability.
The turning point stung a bit more in hindsight, considering what almost happened with Drake. Back in 2018, during Blueface’s viral ascent, he shared screenshots showing Drake praising his record “Dead Locs” and calling him the “next big thing.” The 6 God even teased a collaboration, telling him: “Trust me sh*ts about to poppppp off once people catch up… You know I’m always ready to cook. Boi1da got a beat he made for us that slaps so hard.”
The messages sparked instant fan speculation — but the collab vanished into thin air as Blueface’s career shifted in a different direction.
These days, he’s reentering the spotlight following his recent release from prison earlier this month. True to form, Blueface has jumped right back into headlines: from accusing Chrisean Rock of sleeping with Offset to popping out publicly with Hazel-E. The two were first spotted together at Memehouse Productions in Los Angeles and were later seen on a dinner date at TAO in Hollywood.
