Rap star, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, insists that he is turning over a new leaf. However, just because he is ready for a fresh start doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t be haunted by the ghosts of his past.
Kanye West Brazil Concert Nixed Due To Past Issues
West was initially scheduled to perform a concert in São Paola, Brazil, on November 29. However, that show was nixed by the São Paola government, due to his past pro-nazi comments, according to CNN Brasil.
The city’s Mayor Ricardo Nunes vowed that anybody who enables Nazism will be barred from using any public equipment belonging to their City Hall.
“No one who promotes Nazism will play or sing any words on public equipment belonging to the City Hall,” Nunes said in a statement via AllHipHop. “We do not accept it. And we will do everything necessary to ensure that no one who promotes Nazism has any kind of activity here in the city of SĂŁo Paulo.”
It is easy to see why the SĂŁo Paulo Mayor made the decision that he did. The city has a very large Jewish community, with approximately 60,000 people. And their community represents about half of Brazil’s total Jewish population. Which is estimated to be around 120,000 to 130,000 people.Â
Couple that with the fact that West has aligned himself with Nazism and antisemitism. And even debuted a song called Heil Hitler. Which is a salute to the late Nazi leader. It was a decision that had to be made by their government.
Before the cancellation of the show, an arrest order had been issued against the Grammy-winner. Where he would have been taken into custody if he used his performance to promote Nazism.
It will be interesting to see if Ye revisits the idea of performing in SĂŁo Paulo in the future, or tries to host a concert in a city that is close in proximity.
