R&B singer Carl Carlton passed away on Sunday (December 14). He was 72 years old.

The news was confirmed by the R&B singer’s son, Carlton Hudgens II, on social media.
“RIP Dad, Legend Carl Carlton, singer of She’s a Bad Mama Jama. Long hard fight in life, and you will be missed,” he wrote on Facebook with an accompanying photo of his father.
People flooded Hudgens’ Facebook post with condolences and tributes to the late singer.

Carlton was a hitmaker in the 1970s and 1980s. But his most well-known song is She’s a Bad Mama Jama (She’s Built, She’s Stacked). The song was a huge hit in the 1980s. The track climbed up to the second spot on the US Billboard R&B chart, the 22nd spot on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #34 on the UK Singles Chart. Carlton’s hit record was also nominated for a Grammy award and became a gold-certified track.
Additionally, the song has appeared in multiple films and shows, including Fat Albert, Miss Congeniality 2, Undercover Brother, Firefly Lane, and Young Rock, making it a popular track for bringing retro funk vibes to various movie/TV soundtracks.
The singer’s cause of death has yet to be confirmed. May he rest in peace.
