After his win against Canelo Alvarez earlier this year, many fans considered Terrence Crawford the undisputed boxing GOAT. And after a highly decorated career, Crawford is stepping away from the sport.

Terrence Crawford Retires From Boxing

In a video posted to his social media account on Tuesday (December 16), Crawford announced that he was retiring from boxing. In the video, Crawford said that he decided that the time is right. Because, in his words, he wants to step away on his “own terms.”

“I’m stepping away from competition. Not because I’m done fighting, but because I’ve won a different kind of battle, the one where you walk away on your own terms,” Crawford said in the YouTube video. “This isn’t goodbye, it’s just the end of one fight and the beginning of another.”

The boxing star continued to reflect on his career. Noting that he knew the moment would eventually come to pass. He also noted that he is at peace with his decision. He left no stone unturned throughout his illustrious career.

“Every fighter knows this moment will come. You just never know when. I spent my whole life chasing something. Not belts, not money, not headlines. But that feeling, the one you get when the world doubts you, but you keep showing up, and you keep proving everyone wrong,” he continued. “This sport gave me everything. I fought for my family, I fought for my city. I fought for the kid I used to be, the one who had nothing but a dream and a pair of gloves. And I did it all my way. I gave this sport every breath I had.”

Crawford leaves the sport with an undefeated record of 42 wins, 0 losses, and 0 draws (42-0-0), including 31 wins by knockout (KO). He is also the first undisputed champion in the four-belt era in two weight classes, cementing his legacy as one of boxing’s all-time greats.
