Rap star Tory Lanez did his first on-camera interview since he began his prison bid in August 2023.

During his sit-down with NBC, Lanez continued to maintain his innocence. He also doubled down and said that he has never been violent towards women in his life.

Lanez Maintains Innocence in New Interview

“I’ve never been violent towards a woman; I would never hit a woman. Let alone shoot a woman,” he said in the interview.

To bring things up to speed, Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. For shooting rap star Megan Thee Stallion in the foot during an altercation at a party in 2020. Despite an overwhelming amount of evidence in the trial, Lanez still believes that he was “wrongfully convicted.”

“I believe that not only was I wrongfully convicted, but the amount of new evidence that has emerged since that trial has been overwhelming,” Lanez said.

What is the new evidence that Lanez is referring to? Earlier this year, an unheard audio clip was released of an eyewitness appearing to insinuate that Tory was not the shooter. The witness suggests that the shooter was Megan’s best friend, Kelsey, who was also at the scene.

Lanez is already three years into his ten-year prison bid. But it has been a rough go for him. Earlier this year, he was stabbed 14 times during a prison brawl. Thankfully, he was able to recover from the attack.

When asked how he is dealing with life behind bars, Lanez said he is just taking it one day at a time.

“Truthfully, I’ve done my best to keep my head above water, but mentally I’ve gone through trauma that I sometimes struggle with,” he explained. “Because I’ve never imagined myself dealing with things I never had to deal with. I was stabbed 17 times, and I almost lost my life.”

Following a failed appeal this year, Lanez’s expected release date is 2033, although he could be eligible for parole as early as September 2029
