Lil Durk is no longer being held in solitary confinement after spending nearly five months in restrictive housing.
It was confirmed Thursday that the 33-year-old rapper, born Durk Banks, has been returned to the general population at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center, where he had been housed in a special housing unit since August 2025. Durk was initially placed in solitary confinement following an alleged infraction involving possession of an Apple Watch.
In a motion filed on Jan. 6, Durk’s attorneys requested his release from solitary, arguing that the alleged infraction had not been reviewed by the Unit Discipline Committee within the standard five-working-day window required to determine appropriate disciplinary action. The filing detailed the harsh conditions of his confinement, noting that Durk was locked in a small cell for 23 hours a day with limited access to phone calls, commissary, and no in-person visits.
The defense further argued that the prolonged isolation raised serious constitutional concerns, stating it could violate the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. Following a review hearing on Jan. 7, Durk was subsequently removed from solitary confinement.
Lil Durk has been incarcerated since October 2024 after being arrested and charged with murder-for-hire in connection with the 2022 killing of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, the cousin of Quando Rondo. His trial, originally scheduled to begin on Jan. 20, has since been postponed and is now set to start on April 21.
