The murder trial connected to the 2020 killing of Dallas rapper Mo3 has been delayed until further notice.
Yella Beezy, who was scheduled to stand trial on February 2 for allegedly paying Kewon White to carry out the murder, appeared on the docket Friday (Jan. 16) for a pretrial hearing in Dallas County Court. During the hearing, Beezy’s defense team requested an extension, citing the overwhelming volume of evidence turned over by prosecutors.
According to court filings, the state provided more than 16 terabytes of discovery, prompting Beezy’s attorney to formally request a continuance earlier this month. Beezy was not present at the hearing due to the recent passing of his mother.
Presiding judge Chika Anyiam ruled that the court will reconvene next week to determine how much additional time the defense will need and to set a new trial date. “The parties shall return next week to discuss a new trial date due to logistical issues and motions presented today,” the judge’s ruling stated.
Yella Beezy has remained out on bond since shortly after his arrest last March. If convicted, he could face life in prison. The delay adds another chapter to a case that has continued to draw intense attention from the hip-hop community and beyond.
