Mary J Say Jay-Z Nixed Collab After Song Got Leaked
Mary J has worked with some of the biggest names in music. And has a plethora of hits to show for it. But according to her, there is at least one potential classic that never hit the shelves. A collaboration with Jay-Z.
According to the R&B legend, she and Hov have a “monster” hit that was never released. Because of his feeling “disrespected,” after the song was leaked.
“I was playing one the other day, and this one actually has Hov on it,” Mary teased during her appearance on 7 PM in Brooklyn Monday (Jan. 19) as heard through Billboard. “And it’s a monster, too! When we were younger, we were amped to record that record. I’m not gonna say who it was, but somebody leaked it, and then we couldn’t do anything with it.”

However, Mary J and Jay-Z do have at least one song they released together. She appears on his classic song Can’t Knock The Hustle, which appears on his debut album Reasonable Doubt.
That wasn’t the only collab that the R&B legend revealed that she missed out on. Mary J also revealed that she was initially offered the beat for Rihanna’s Umbrella, but she also passed on that song.
“All I heard was eh, eh … it wasn’t for me,” she said of the song.
However, it ended up being arguably the biggest hit of Rihanna’s career.
The No More Drama creator also recently announced her Las Vegas residency, titled Mary J. Blige: My Life, My Story. The concert series will kick off in May 2026 and will feature 10 dates between May and July of this year at Dolby Live inside Park MGM.
