Joe Budden has one of the top hip-hop podcasts in the game. And as he has gained notoriety in the media space, Joe has landed some of the top names in the entertainment industry on his podcasts. Nicki Minaj, The Clipse, and Nas are just a few of the guests to grace his pod. His podcast has truly become a staple within hip-hop culture.
Joe Budden Says He Was Considered For ‘The Breakfast Club’
However, things could have shaped out a lot differently. During a recent sit-down with Club Shay Shay host Shannon Sharpe, Budden revealed that he was initially considered for a job with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. Before it was established.
“Where’d you get that from? That was a good one,” Budden responded when Sharpe asked if he was supposed to be a host of the morning program. “No […] My name was in the hat at inception when they were tossing some ideas around, when they really didn’t have a title yet. I went to a dinner with somebody concerning that, but I was never in further talks about it.”
The hosting gigs eventually went to DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, and Angela Yee. It has worked out well for all three of the eventual hosts. But especially for Charlamagne.
The Breakfast Club host recently signed a reported $200 million deal with iHeartMedia. He will continue his role as host of The Breakfast Club and will also look to elevate his Black Effect Podcast network to new heights. During a recent episode of his podcast, Budden talked about how proud he is of Charlamagne. Especially considering that they both came from humble beginnings.
“It got me thinking about just even the history between him and me and where we both are,” Budden said. “Like someone got a picture of me and him in a South Carolina radio station in 2001 and 2002 looking dusty and bummy, just two talented n****s passionate about something. I like it. He probably got it, but we don’t speak.”
