When mega star Bad Bunny was named as the Super Bowl 60 Halftime Show headliner, it was met with a lot of criticism from those in the entertainment industry. Many vowed to boycott the halftime show because of past political statements that he made. Among those was boxer Jake Paul.
Paul vowed not watch the halftime show. Calling Bad Bunny a “fake American citizen.”
“Purposefully turning off the halftime show, let’s rally together and show big corporations they can’t just do whatever they want without consequences (which equals viewership for them),” Paul wrote in a social media post on Sunday Night (February 8). “You are their benefit. Realize you have power. Turn off this halftime. A fake American citizen performing who publicly hates America. I cannot support that.”
Claressa Shields Rips Jake Paul Over Bad Bunny Comments
However, boxing star Claressa Shields was quick to shut down Paul’s statement. She called out the flaws in his statement, noting that Puerto Rico is a part of the United States. She also shamed him for not being more well-informed. Especially because of his dating history.
“Please, Jake, not today. Puerto Ricans are not fake citizens. You would think that you, of all people, would support this as you have so many Puerto Rican women under your umbrella,” she said in a social media post on Sunday. “What’s happening with ICE is terrible, and we shouldn’t want to see harm done to anyone who is a part of America & a minority! Do better, Jake. This isn’t right.”

At the time of writing, Paul has not directly responded to Shields’ statement. However, did say in another social media post that his comments about Bad Bunny being a fake American citizen were being “misinterpreted.”
