Professor Michael Eric Dyson has issued a public apology to Jay-Z after previously referencing a private conversation between the two.
In a newly posted video, Dyson clarified details about the exchange and admitted he should not have shared it publicly. The professor explained that the conversation wasn’t actually a phone call, as he had initially suggested, but rather a text message exchange between the two.
Dyson also clarified the context of the disagreement. According to him, the discussion stemmed from a comparison he made involving Kendrick Lamar and Donald Trump. Dyson said Jay-Z pushed back on the comparison, telling him the situation wasn’t that serious.
While addressing the issue, Dyson walked back part of his earlier description of Jay-Z’s response. He acknowledged that Jay-Z did not “vigorously” or “aggressively” disagree with him, clarifying that the exchange was more measured than he initially portrayed.
The apology appears to be an attempt by Dyson to set the record straight and respect the privacy of his communication with Jay-Z after the conversation became a topic of public discussion.
