Rap star Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is demanding that the media put some respect on his name. The new one that is.
Ye Demands Media Stop Calling Him Kanye West
The Grammy-winner released a statement on Wednesday (March 11). And he demanded that the media start addressing him by his new legal name — Ye.
“IT HAS BEEN SEVEN YEARS SINCE THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS KANYE WEST ANNOUNCED THAT HENCEFORWARD HIS NAME WOULD BE YE,” the statement starts.
“THIS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME FOR MEDIA COMPANIES, SEARCH ENGINES, RECORD LABELS, DSPS, RETAILERS, LYRICS WEBSITES, PUBLISHERS, AND OTHERS TO UPDATE THEIR RECORDS AND SYSTEMS TO TAKE ACCOUNT OF THE CHANGE.”

The Yeezy creator legally changed his name to Ye on October 18, 2021, when a Los Angeles judge approved his petition. Ye cited personal reasons and a desire for the name to reflect his “good, bad, confusion, everything” as a reason for the change.
However, even after the name change, Most people still use his former name, Kanye. Because that is the name that most people have addressed him by over the past two decades. But West is not responding to anyone who calls him that name anymore. In fact, he is refusing to work with anyone who addresses him by anything other than his legal name.
“YE IS ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, ON PAR WITH PRESIDENTS AND POPES. THIS CHANGE WAS MADE FULLY, LEGALLY, AND PERMANENTLY. THIS IS WHO HE IS NOW. HIS NAME IS YE,” the statement continues. “YEEZY LLC WILL NO LONGER CO-OPERATE WITH OR PROVIDE COMMENT OR CONFIRMATION TO MEDIA OUTLETS THAT REFUSE TO USE HIS LEGAL NAME.”
