Earlier this week, a new Drake snippet began to make its rounds on social media. And once it went viral, it ignited the internet.
In a new snippet, Drake name-drops his former love interest, tennis star Serena Williams. In addition, he also mentions Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) artist ScHoolboy Q.
“.Serena, but I’m cool with Venus / I be hanging around those n****s like I’m Dua Lipa / I might hit up f*cking ScHoolboy and do a remix / Cause you put your n****s on, but they making peanuts / We don’t ever peace it up, the sh*t we got between us,” he raps on the snippet.
Akademiks Explains Why He Doesn’t Like New Drake Leak
After the leak went viral, hip-hop personality DJ Akademiks weighed in and said he doesn’t like the new snippet.
“I’ll be the first to say it, I don’t like the snippet. I don’t like it, I’m gonna be honest,” he said (via CY Chels/X), as heard through HotNewHipHop.
Akademiks goes on to explain why he isn’t a fan. Noting that the new snippet just further pushes the narrative among conspiracy theorists that Drake leaks his own music. Which Akademiks says is not the case.
“These conspiracy theorists really think that Drake is leaking his own music. Like, ‘Oh, Drake is testing it!’ First of all, I’ll tell you this verbatim from Drake. Drake doesn’t want to use the crowd as A&R,” he continued. “He’s gonna drop what he wants to drop, but there are people who feel like Drake has tested.

Ak says the bars make Drake sound salty about Kendrick/TDE, but believes the record is just a leftover from $$$4U that hackers leaked. https://t.co/2uJX5tIBKc pic.twitter.com/T25epCl2n3
He also says that whoever is behind the leaks is only using the snippets where Drake name-drops other people. In an effort to make the clips go viral.
“The reality of why I don’t like this snippet […] It’s clear that someone picked the snippets where he’s probably name-dropping. Doesn’t give me enough of the song where I can be like, ‘Oh, it’s fire,'” he added.
“It makes it seem like Drake is in the studio cooking up a bunch of rhymes about TDE. With all due respect, I don’t even think Kendrick Lamar remembers ScHoolboy Q’s name. […] It would be preposterous for me to listen to even Drake mention ScHoolboy Q, respectfully. […] This leak makes it sound like Drake is still in the studio, salty as f*8k.”
