Disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs won’t stop pursuing his freedom. According to a recent report from TMZ, the rapper’s legal team recently submitted a filing requesting his immediate release.
Diddy’s Team Demands ‘Immediate Release’ In New Filing
In October, Combs was handed down a 50-month prison sentence by trial Judge Arun Subramanian. A sentence that the Bad Boy Records founder’s lawyers are calling a “perversion of justice.”
They are also demanding: “immediate release and grant a judgment of acquittal or at least vacate and remand for resentencing.”
When Diddy was initially swept up by the feds, he was facing a slew of charges. Including trafficking and RICO. However, the music mogul was only convicted of interstate prostitution when the verdict was handed down last May. Related to his involvement with his ex-girlfriend and label artist, Cassie Ventura, and a Jane Doe.
Diddy’s lawyers argue that the sentencing handed down by Judge Subramanian was an act of “acquitted conduct” sentencing. Which is defined as a legal practice where a judge increases a defendant’s sentence based on criminal behavior for which a jury has already found them “not guilty”.
Diddy is also set to appeal his trial in April of next year. But it could be an uphill climb for him and his legal team. Especially after the release of the Netflix documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning. A film that does a deep dive into his years of abusive behavior during his rise to music superstardom during the 1990s and early 2000s. The documentary includes several testimonies from his alleged victims, which detail similar abuse.
One good thing that has happened for the mogul is that his release date was recently moved up a couple of months. Instead of June 2028, Diddy is set to be released in April of the same year after the adjustment.
