The 98th Academy Awards were a career-defining night for actor Michael B. Jordan. Jordan took home the award for best actor for his role as the Smoke and Stack twins in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.
Michael B. Jordan now joins a prestigious group. As one of just six black actors to ever take home the best actor award, along with Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, and Will Smith.
Foxx Praises Michael B. Jordan After Oscar Win
Following Jordan’s win, Jamie Foxx was over the moon about Jordan joining the group.
“I can barely breathe right now… You were absolutely incredible in this film,” Foxx captioned a recent social media post. “An amazing actor, an amazing director — truly all of the above. Tonight we celebrate you: your talent, your mystique, and your incredible passion for the craft.
Foxx took home the 2005 award for his performance as Ray Charles in the hit film, Ray. Jamie went on to say that Jordan deserves two awards. For playing the roles of Smoke and Stack.
“Honestly, you deserve two Oscars for this one. When I sat down to watch the movie, I already knew it was going to be special the moment I saw a pair of Jordans on screen. Then the first line — “Are you guys twins?” and you hit us with, “No… we cousins!” — man, I was locked in from there,” he continued.
“Congratulations, my brother. You’re operating in rare air right now. Celebrate it to the fullest.”
