A shooting at the Los Angeles residence of Rihanna and ASAP Rocky has left the Umbrella singer shaken up, according to a source close to the star.
Rihanna Beefs Up Security in Shooting Aftermath
A source close to Rih spoke with PEOPLE on Wednesday (March 18). When speaking to the outlet, the source noted that the entire situation was terrifying for the singer. But expressed gratitude for everyone’s safety in the aftermath.
Earlier this month, a woman unleashed a flurry of gunfire at Rihanna’s Los Angeles home. According to the LAPD, the woman fired between seven and ten rounds from an AR-15-style rifle from the inside of a parked car located across the street from the house.
In the aftermath of the situation, the source says that Rih Rih is still confused as to why someone would go to such lengths to target her family.
“Even with a great security team in place, it’s scary to realize that something like this can still happen,” the source said. “Rihanna heard the shots, but was initially confused about what happened. She doesn’t understand why someone would target her family.”
Rihanna is not taking any chances. She and her family have since flown out of Los Angeles and are currently in New York City. And when TMZ spotted the power couple out, they had significantly beefed up their security presence. As they were seen exiting a hotel surrounded by “six” security guards.
The woman who targeted Rihanna’s family was identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz. As for why? It appears that Ortiz was nothing more than a crazed superfan. Following her arrest, several of Ortiz’s social media posts began to surface. And one thing was clear: she had a long-running, deep disdain for Rihanna. She makes several claims, including accusing the singer of having AIDS.
Ortiz has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder, and her bail is currently set at $10,225,000.
