Brandy has finally broken her silence over the recent comments made by Shyne, Cam’ron, and Mase.

The Moesha star took to social media on Wednesday (March 18) to confront the trio of rappers over a rumor that she dated Mase and Shyne simultaneously when they were younger. Although Mase and Shyne confirmed the rumor during a recent episode of Cam’ron’s “It Is What It Is” podcast, Brandy says that it is not. She insists that her and Shyne’s relationship was strictly “platonic.”

Brandy Shuts Down Rumor That She Dated Shyne

“In the late 90’s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shyne. In an unfortunate turn of events, that friendship is now being mischaracterized as ‘we dated.’ Unequivocally, we did not!” she said in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I’m not sure why an untrue narrative about a scope of what was a friendship more than 20 years ago is being reshaped during his current media interviews.”

The clip of Mase, Shyne, and Cam’ron’s conversation quickly went viral on social media. And once Ray J caught wind, he addressed the three of them during a recent stream. And threatened violence against the trio of rappers. But Brandy made it clear that she did not support his actions.

“Additionally, I rarely release statements and typically ignore stories about me in the headlines, even when they’re false. But when I do decide to stand up for myself, I handle things on my own,” she added. “While I love my brother Ray J, I don’t condone or support the messages he’s shared on social media and have not asked him to defend me in any form.”

She also noted that stories like these are why she decided to write a memoir. She took time to promote her upcoming book.

“People telling their version of my story is why I am releasing my upcoming memoir, ‘PHASES.” It’s time to tell my truth and debunk many of the misnomers that people think they know about my life,” she concluded.

Brandy’s book releases on March 31.
