Drake just received a major salute from one of the top voices in Canada.
Drake Receives Major Salute From Canadian Prime Minister
Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, was in attendance at the Juno Awards on Sunday (March 29). To present the lifetime achievement award to Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell. And during his presentation, Carney placed Drizzy among the top artists who are at the “core” of Canada’s thriving music scene.
“Canada is the third-largest exporter of music in the world. It’s a huge industry, but really, at the core of it, it’s our stories, it’s our emotions, it’s our heart, at a time when the world needs more Canada,” the Prime Minister said as heard through Hot 97. “Joni Mitchell is the heart, Nelly Furtado. It’s the whole range. Drake, Rush, whoever, Canadian, Canadian, Canadian.”
Drake was also involved in the evening’s activities. He sent his well wishes to Canadian-born artist Nelly Furtado. In a pre-recorded message celebrating her induction into Canada’s Hall of Fame. However, even though the purpose of his being there was to celebrate Furtado, he also took the opportunity to take a slight at the awards committee.
“To the Junos, because you are honouring one of my dearest friends tonight, I will spare you, even though I know you’re still thinking about those six awards that you gave to Shad in 2011 when you snubbed ‘Take Care’ as I hosted the 40th anniversary of your award show. But listen, that’s neither here nor there. Tonight we’ll let it go. This is about Nelly,” he said.
Drake could add even more prestige to the Canadian music scene in 2026. He is set to release his next studio album, Iceman, later this year.
