Rap star Tyler, the Creator, appeared on the Gangsta Grillz podcast with DJ Drama. And one of the things the two of them discussed was his Mount Rushmore of artists.
Tyler The Creator Reveals Mount Rushmore of Artists
Tyler’s list was surprising to say the least. Versatile, but still surprising.
His list included neo soul legend Erykah Badu, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, and Pharrell.
Tyler moved on to his favorite rappers. And named Eminem, Outkast member Andre 3000, Dwayne Carter (Lil Wayne), and Pharrell.
Finally, he listed his favorite albums, which was again a unique and diversified listing.
N.E.R.D.‘s In Search Of…, Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP, Clipse’s Hell Hath No Fury, Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun, and Voodoo by late Neo soul legend and Zhané’s self-titled record.
It was a cool exchange to see where Tyler’s brain is in terms of his musical taste. But overall, he believes that all-time lists are pointless. He would rather listen to people “talk about s**t they like.”
“I would rather hear people talk about the sh*t they like… Who gives a f**k?” he said. “People really be arguing like, ‘How dare you not put so-and-so on your Mount Rushmore?’ Go get a f*cking hobby. It truly blows my mind. […] It’s like, cool, hip-hop Twitter run by a 16-year-old white kid who didn’t even grow up on rap, do your thing…”
