For years now, Jay-Z has been considered the gold standard in hip-hop. And despite it being nearly a decade since his last album release, the Brooklyn native wants to keep it that way.
50 Cent Says Jay-Z Still Wants to Be The Top Guy in Rap
Jay-Z graced the stage at the Roots Picnic in May. His first of four headlining performances that he has scheduled this summer. During his set, he called out several of his critics. Including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tory Lanez. And after he blasted the artists, a major debate ensued about where he stands among current artists.
During a recent episode of Tony Yayo & Uncle Murda’s podcast, The Real Report, the latter explained how Fifty always says that even in his older years, Jay-Z wants to be recognized as the top artist in the rap game.
“Jay is too competitive,” Uncle Murda explained. “And, you know, even when we kick it with Fif, he’s like, ‘Jay wants to be the number one rapper, period.’ Jay wants to be that guy.”

This may be true. But one thing about Hov is that his moves have always been calculated. His freestyle at the Roots picnic has sent the rap game into a frenzy for almost a week now.
And that will only build the anticipation for his upcoming concert in his hometown of New York City. He is set to perform three sold-out nights at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx in July. They commemorate the anniversaries of his iconic albums, The Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt. All three shows sold out within the hour they were made available.
Fans are more than welcome to debate whether or not he is still the top guy in hip-hop. But one thing is undeniable: to have all this motion after more than three decades in the game is something that has never been seen before.
