LeBron James is revered as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. But the Los Angeles Lakers star is willing to take it a step further than that.

LeBron James Declares Himself Basketball’s GOAT

In a recent conversation with TIME Magazine, the future Hall of Famer declared that he has reached the pinnacle of basketball greatness. James believes that he is the greatest basketball player ever.

“I’m not taking anybody over me. There’s no question,” James said when talking to the outlet.

To be considered the greatest basketball players ever is a high title. Especially when you consider all of the premier athletes that have played in the league.

Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant — and the list goes on.

But James clarifies that considering himself the greatest of all time is no slight to the other legends of the game. In fact, he thinks that they probably feel the same way. According to James, it is a part of the bravado that comes with being in that tier of NBA legends.

“But I think Mike will say the same thing,” James said. “Rest his soul, Kobe will say the same thing. Magic will say the same thing. Bird will say the same thing. Shaq could say the same thing. The late great Wilt. Kareem. I don’t think any of us are going to take somebody else.”

He also added: “Listen, to each his own. I can tell you this. I never step into another man’s shoes, saying, ‘OK, well, s—, I got to do better than him.’ My journey is my journey. I do what I do. I know what I’ve brought to the table. From a basketball standpoint, an inspiring standpoint, an influential standpoint, I know I can walk in any room.”

If James decides to come back next year, it will be his 24th NBA season. No other player has played more than 22 seasons.
