The tragic loss of Adam “MCA” Yauch seemed to mark the end of musical pursuits for the legendary Beastie Boys. However, over a decade after MCA’s untimely passing, fellow leading member Mike D is ready to return to music.
What Has Mike D Said About The Album?
In a statement about the album, Mike D laid out his vision and why he thought the time is right.
“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration,” Mike said.” “And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”
According to the press release, Mike D collaborated with his sons Skyler and Davis, as well as notable producers and songwriters who’ve done work for SZA, Rihanna, and Kendrick Lamar.
It is unknown if fellow surviving Beastie Boys member Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz will make an appearance.
The tracklist for the album features songs such as: “Switch Up,” “What We Got,” “True Colors,” “That’s Right,” “Secrets Pt. 1,” “Secrets Pt. 2,” “I Don’t Care,” “Make It Stop,” “Crypto,” “Here We Are,” “Back To Start,” “It’s Time” and “Thank You.”
