R&B legend Akon recently sat down for an interview with Izzy Izzo of Complex News. And one of the topics that the two of them touched on was pop Icon, Michael Jackson.

Akon Believes Drake & Michael Jackson Are on The Same Level

During the conversation, Izzo asks the Soul Survivor creator if there is any artist today who can compare to Jackson from an accomplishment perspective. And Akon believes that the only person who comes close is Drake.

“He’s the only one that’s on that level from an accomplishment perspective,” Akon said in a clip caught by AkademiksTV on X.

Izzo then hit back and said that somebody like Beyonce or Ye (formerly Kanye West) could also be in that same stratosphere. And while Akon agreed that Queen Bey could be on that tier, he still doesn’t feel like she has “Drake numbers.”

“I mean, you can’t really dispute it. The numbers are right there for you,” he added.

Of course, fans in the comments section of the post had a lot to say about Akon’s remarks.

“Accomplishments come in a different era where we have many online streaming platforms, where MJ never had during his time. That’s a big difference,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Accomplishments, yes, but he will never be as big as MJ. Just on the billboards, that’s it,” a second user chimed in.

“It’s really not debatable, you can not like Drake, but no one has been as consistent and successful as Drake since MJ,” a third user remarked.

After Drake dropped his ninth studio album, Iceman, in May, he captured what was once viewed as an unattainable feat. His new single, Janice STFU, came in as the top record on the Billboard chart the week after the album’s release. As it has moved him past pop icon Michael Jackson for the most number one records of all time.
