Rap artist Mystikal (Born Michael Lawrence Tyler) learned his fate in his pending sexual assault case on Tuesday (June 16).
Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison
According to a report from Variety, the rapper was sentenced to 20 years in prison. After facing a maximum sentence of 25 years.
The rapper known for hit records such as Danger (Been So Long) and Shake Ya A** has been accused of several heinous crimes by an unidentified woman. She claimed that she was physically beaten, sexually assaulted, and choked during a financial dispute with the rapper. She also accused Tyler of holding her against her will. And forcing her to transfer money to his bank account via CashApp.
This is just the latest incident of a long list of legal troubles for the rapper.
In 2023, he pleaded guilty to forcing his hairstylist to perform continuous sex acts in 2002.
In 2017, he was charged with sexual assault and kidnapping in Caddo Parish after an incident at a Shreveport casino. He served 18 months in prison before the charges were ultimately dismissed by prosecutors in 2021.
This past March, he accepted a plea deal where he faced up to 25 years in prison as opposed to taking it to trial and facing life imprisonment. However, this past Friday, Mystikal tried to withdraw his plea. The rapper claimed that he “did not have sufficient opportunity to fully consider the consequences” before accepting it.
He also stated that he was “under significant emotional distress and felt substantial pressure to make an immediate decision.”
Unfortunately for him, that motion was rejected and he will be in prison for the next two decades.
